Field Trips
| PLEASE
NOTE!!!!!- When you call to sign up for
these
field trips, please check with the trip coordinator to see if there is
anything you can
do to help. It takes a lot of work to coordinate a field trip
while still taking care of a home and schooling your own
children.
When
you do send money, please clearly label what the money is for and who
it
covers, so that the coordinator doesn't have to spend extra time trying
to figure
out
who paid and for what. Also,
please
do not call past the deadline for signup if you can at all avoid it.
There is nothing more frazzling than getting calls the morning of the
field
trip! This causes the coordinator to have to recalculate
everything, which
is
a nightmare! We try to make most of our trips open and easy
to
attend,
but we need to have a deadline so that the coordinator can properly
deal with the
owners of the establishments we are visiting. We want to have
a
good
testimony so that when we call the next time, we are favorably
received.
Thanks for helping! |
Civil War Encampment the Granger HomesteadSaturday,
September 27, 2008 presents a unique field trip opportunity for home
school groups interested in the Civil War period. Your group can take
part in a day of living history. The Granger Homestead and the
Reynoldsʼ Battery L 1st New York Light Artillery will present a Civil
War Encampment on the grounds of the Homestead at 295 North Main
Street, Canandaigua, on September 26 and 27.
Your students will
experience life as soldiers entering the armed forces. Each group will
receive its own drill sergeant, who will escort them through a series
of stations describing military life, medical technology, civilian
life, the activity of the signal corps, and others.
The Reynolds
Battery stresses authenticity and historical accuracy in their
portrayal of the Civil War Era, and is incorporated under the New York
State Board of Regents. The Encampment will emphasize learning in a
stimulating setting that will make the period come alive for the
students.
The cost of the Encampment is $3.50 per person,
including accompanying adults. Pre-school age children are free. Note
that the regular Saturday admission is $5.00 per person, but home
school students will receive our reduced educational program rate for a
reserved group tour.
We have reserved 9-11 AM on Saturday,
September 27, 2008 for home school groups. Students and their families
are invited to spend the day at the Encampment after their guided tour,
and have lunch on the grounds. Public activities planned for this year
include cannon drills, infantry drills, signal corps, a medic station,
and washerwoman demonstrations. Spaces fill quickly, and we have
a limit on the number of people we can accommodate Saturday morning.
Please RSVP by Friday, July 11th, to sheriandbrian@frontiernet.net.
Include your name, number of paying adults and children, and number of
children 4 and under (they are free). I don't have any limit on
numbers, so you are welcome to invite friends and family. I only
need a group number right now. More details and collection of
money will occur in September. Sheri Hanley (585) 223-2806 Michele Boyer (315)524-3873

Monthly Parenting Seminar/Bible Study
WHEN: Next Meeting - July 25th
TIME: 7:00 to 8:30
WHERE: New Hope Christian Fellowship 170 Mt. Read Blvd Rochester,
NY 14617
Ellen and I wanted to let you know of a new opportunity beginning in
April. I am writing a parenting book, and in the process I've developed
a companion parenting seminar/Bible study. The reason I refer to it as
a seminar/Bible study, is because it is a combination of both. Ellen
and I have done our best to train up our kids according to what God has
laid out in the Scriptures. Along the way, the Holy Spirit has blessed
us with the wisdom of experience that has helped us put the Scriptural
truth into practice. It has been a wonderful ride thus far, as we have
raised our first two to adulthood. With one to go, we've seen God honor
His word thus far, and we have no plans to do anything different.
Ellen and I will be offering this seminar/Bible study
beginning April 25th. It is a 12 lesson program that will meet
once a month for a
year. A study book will be included, but our main textbook will be the
Bible, so bring one if you plan to attend. What I would like from you
is an email response if you're interested in participating. It will be on the 4th Friday of each month beginning
at 7:00 PM. We
would prefer that you find private child care, but if you are
absolutely unable to find anyone, Wendy Scott has offered to
provide on site paid child care. (Again, it would be easier if you
found private child care as the more children we have on site, the more
distracted we can get.)
RSVP - EMAIL US by June 25th, 2008 at
compass@mindless.com to let us know if you're coming so we can make
copies!

It's also a chance for you to meet some board members directly and to
voice your opinions during our short business meeting.
